Project Breakdown
Overview
Summary: The first project, featuring Pemberley from Pride and Prejudice, is part of my Jane Austen architectural series, where I reimagine the iconic settings from her novels through a stylized, painterly lens. The project blends my love for classic literature and architecture, exploring how environments can convey emotion and story even without characters. It focuses on creating a balance between realism and artistry, where light, color, and proportion work together to express a sense of calm and elegance.
Inspiration: Austen’s locations often mirror the inner qualities of her characters. Pemberley, in Pride and Prejudice, represents integrity and quiet refinement, and I wanted to translate that symbolism into 3D form. Drawing from Georgian and Neoclassical architecture, I looked at real English estates for reference while softening the shapes and textures to achieve a painted, dreamlike effect. My goal was to make it feel like a timeless illustration rather than a direct reproduction of reality.
Modeling & Texturing
The modeling was done in Blender, with attention to proportion, rhythm, and the symmetry typical of Georgian design. Each architectural detail such as columns, windows, and moldings was shaped to emphasize balance and harmony without overwhelming the scene. The surrounding landscape, including the grass and trees, was generated using particle systems with children instances to create natural variation and density. For the texturing, I used a semi hand-painted approach with gentle brush patterns and muted tones that imitate traditional painting. This method added a sense of warmth and imperfection that helped the final result feel more like an illustration than a render.
Lighting played a key role in setting the mood. I aimed for a soft morning atmosphere using warm sunlight complemented by cool ambient tones to create depth. Area lights and an HDRI map provided natural illumination while maintaining control over highlights and reflections. In compositing, I refined the image through subtle color grading, bloom, and film grain to enhance the painterly quality. The final result captures a quiet and inviting mood where architecture and light work together to tell the story.
lighting &
rendering
This is an ongoing project where I plan to recreate more of Austen’s most beloved locations. Once the series is complete, I aim to turn each render into a book cover to create my own personal editions of her novels.
